Hiking tips in Hochfilzen
Grießner Moor, conservation area and bird sanctuary
Walking time: approx. 1 hour (there & back) - EASY
A hike to romantic Grießensee starts from the railway underpass and continues to "Im Bachl". Turn right after "Magnesitstraße" on to the cycle path to Leogang, then walk through the rushes until you get to the bird-watchers- tower right on the lake. A great many different species of birds come to the Grießner Hochmoor to hatch their eggs and can be observed from the tower. The terrace on the lakeside pasture is a wonderful place to stop and linger.
Römersattel - Schüttach trail
Walking time: approx. 4 hours for one section - MEDIUM
This hike takes you over the "Roman Saddle" on the old pilgrimage trail to the Pinzgau. Starting from the centre of Hochfilzen village, head towards the military training area, go past the biathlon course, then bear towards the Römersattel (1,205 m) until you get to the Vorderkaser ravine.
