Hiking tips in St. Jakob in Haus

Village tour

Approx. walking time: 1 hour; EASY

Starting point: from the village centre (the "Post") head towards Filzen along the Buchensteinwand tour trail, then go along the Pillersee road to Mühlau towards Fieberbrunn. To return, take the panorama trail on the left back to the village centre.

Panorama trail

Approx. walking time: 1 hour; EASY

Starting point: hamlet of Lehrberg (Lehrberg farm). Turn left after about 100 m above Lehrberg farm. Follow the signposts, and the route will take you into the village "Mühlau" to the hamlet of Filzen.

Kühle Klause (lots of shade)

Approx. walking time: 1 hour; EASY

Starting point: from the building and recycling yard or the tennis courts next to the fork in the road keep going straight ahead along the field path, then turn right to the hamlet of Mühlau. Continue on the Buchensteinwand tour trail to the "Cool Ravine" until you get to Fieberbrunn.

Lehrbergalm

Approx. walking time: 2 hours; MEDIUM

Starting point: from Lehrberg farm follow the signposts straight on to the Lehrbergalm, then head left along the St. Jakob high altitude trail to the Schartenalm.

Eiblberger Einkehr

Approx. walking time: 0.5 hours; MEDIUM
Starting point: from the village centre (the "Post") head towards Filzen until you get to the parsonage.  After the parsonage (see signpost) bear right over the Eiblberg until you get to the "Eiblberger Einkehr".

Gerstberg (1,119 m)

Approx. walking time: 1 hour; MEDIUM
Starting point: from the village centre (the "Post") head towards Filzen until you get to the parsonage. After the parsonage (see signpost) bear right over the Eiblberg until you get to the "Gerstberg" refreshments stop. With a good 700 years of history behind it, the Gerstberg is the oldest farm in the district of Kitzbühel. Traditional Tyrolean fare is served up in the "Rauchkuch'l" or on the sheltered sun terrace.

Buchensteinwand (1,456 m)

Approx. walking time 2 hours; MEDIUM

Starting point: the hamlet of Reith, Kröpfl-Liftstüberl car park. Behind the Kröpfl-Liftstüberl, the trail takes you along the winding Anzenthal path (see signpost), below the lift support pylons of the Pillersee cableway, along lush alpine pastures to the Kröpflalm, and from there to the Buchensteinwand alpine inn. You can also easily get to the Buchensteinwand by taking the 4-seater chairlift from St. Jakob i. H. or St. Ulrich.

Starting point: From the village centre (the "Post") head towards Filzen along the Buchensteinwand tour trail over the Pillersee road to Mühlau towards Fieberbrunn until you get to the fork for Buchensteinwand. On the left, a shady path through a wood leads to the Buchensteinwand alpine inn via the Katzeneck. The educational flower path on the Buchensteinwand is a very beautiful, romantic and short path approx. 1,670 m in length and with an altitude difference of 70 m. Four large panorama panels detailing the surrounding mountain peaks have been erected on the footpath. The path itself features pictures and information about the various trees, bushes, flowers and local specialities that grow there. The high plateau of the Buchensteinwand also features an idyllic mountain lake. After a short but hearty refreshment break at the alpine inn, the way back takes you down the mountain along the Kammbergalm to St. Jakob i. H. or St. Ulrich (to the hamlet of Flecken).
