Hiking tips Waidring
Hackenschmiede- Schäferau chapel - Kneipp pools
Walking time: 2 hrs (hiking tour) EASY
From the village head towards Pillersee along the Achenweg trail (on the left) until you get to the mill wheel of the old Hacken forge, then climb up the "Pfarrersteigl" to the Schäferau chapel, from there walk along the mountain slope to the Kneipp pools / Seisenbach spring (signposted as trail 1) and then return via the Unterwasser village district.
Waidring - Hausstatt -Strub hiking tour
Walking time: 3 hrs (hiking tour) EASY
From the village take the Hintergasse until just before the Lofer road underpass. Turn right and walk along the edge of the meadow until you reach Haselbach - cross the road when you get to the camping site. Then walk along the right bank of the Haselbach past the Hausstatt farm to the Strub village district (the "Strub"refreshment point). The best way to go back is through the wooded area at the foot of the Loferer Steinberge (Kneipp pools - for return, see reverse of a).), signposted as trail 1.
Blachholz chapel - Enthgriess - Hasler Schlucht:
Walking time: 45 mins (each way starting from the the "Genussladen Seibl") - DIFFICULT
From the village take the Wiesen trail on the left to the Blachholz chapel and continue following the path to the "Enthgriess" inn (refreshment point) - to go back, take the cycling path/hiking trail.
Weissbachschlucht
Walking time: 2 St. (each way) EASY
From the village head towards St. Ulrich until you reach the Weissbach car park. Then take the forest path on the right along the stream to the gorge (about 3 km). Turn left at the feeding point for game and walk up the steep path to the the "Oberweissbach" inn (refreshment point).
From here you can either take the tobogganing run back to Weissbach car park or go via the Rechensau alpine farms to St. Adolari (refreshment point) and take the cycle path back to the starting point.
St. Adolari - Pillersee
Walking time: 4 hrs (hiking tour) - EASY
From the village take the Achenweg trail, walking along the right of the stream to the old sports ground, then cross the footbridge to the other side until you get to Schöttl bridge, from here go past Schöttlbauer and Peitinghof to the "St. Adolari" inn (refreshment point), then continue going left along the lakeside to St. Ulrich and walk back along the other side of the lake to St. Adolari. Return to Waidring through the "Öfenschlucht" on the cycle path.
Across the Durchkaseralm to the Fellhorn
Walking time: 2 hrs (each way) - MEDIUM
From the Steinplatte car park next to the former Steinplatte inn (signposted) take the redesigned educational nature trail(Brenn hut (refreshment point)) to the Durchkaseralm, Windbühel. From here take the path on the left (signposted as trail 6) to the Straubinger Haus (refreshment point - 1,558 m), then continue to the Fellhorn (1,764 m).
To the Winkelmoosalm
Walking time: 4 hrs (hiking tour) - EASY
From the Steinplatte car park on the left of the chairlift valley terminal (signposted as trail 7), continue to the fork, turn left and go past the Schwarzloferalm, Eibenstock hut and Zigeunermarterl to the Winklmoosalm (refreshment point) (Bavaria). Return via the Rossweide to the Möseralm (refreshment point), then past the Köhrgatterl and Stallenalm (refreshment point) to the car park.
Steinplatte summit
..from the Steinplatte car park follow the path on the left to the Stallenalm (refreshment point) and the Köhrgatterl - take a right to the reservoir - from the "Kammerkör" inn (refreshment point) go up to the summit
Walking time: 2 hrs (each way) - EASY
...from the Stallenalm (refreshment point) follow the forest path on the right (signposted as trail 8) to the Grünwaldalm, then walk up the steep path to the "Kopfkrax" and bear left along the Wieslochsteig to the summit
Walking time: 2 - 3 hrs (each way) - DIFFICULT
Köhrsteig - Loferer Alm
Walking time: 3 hrs (each way) - MEDIUM
From the cableway mountain terminal take the path down to the reservoir, then turn right to the Kammerköhralm - follow the trail 9 signposts along the Kammerköhralm to the so-called "Köhrsteig" climbing path. This leads through extremely romantic terrain on a fairly challenging hike to the Loferer Alm (one possible refreshments step is Schönblick).
Steinplatte summit
Walking time: 1,5 hrs - EASY
From the cableway mountain terminal towards the summit, take the left path (signposted as trail 8b - panorama trail) after the 4-seater chairlift mountain station above the "Kammerkör" inn (refreshment point) and follow this to the summit.
A more environmentally friendly option is to walk along all of the paths mentioned under 2), using the cableway mountain terminal as your starting point.
Waidring panorama trail
Walking time: 4 hrs (hiking tour) - EASY
Start off from the village district of Strub (at Ascherbauer), from here follow the forest path to the fork at Griessbachersteig (Jägeralm stamping point) and then bear right along the path to the Kitzgraben hut (tip: if you wish to climb the summit, a very steep, winding path from here leads to the Brunnkopf, 1,780 m, DIFFICULT!). Continue past the Kitzgraben hut, follow the path on the left down towards the valley through the "Teufelsklamm" to the car park opposite St. Adolari (refreshment point). For the way back, walk on the right of the road to Peiting/Schöttlbauer, keep to the right of the "Mühlberg" until you reach the Schäferau chapel and then walk along the shady path to the Kneipp pools/Seisenbach spring and back to the starting point.
Hausberg hiking tour
Walking time: 2 hrs (hiking tour) - MEDIUM
Start off at the centre of the village (next to the Hausberg T-bar lift) and follow the path to the fountain, then, keeping to the left on the path, continue until you are above the Weissbach gorge and heading towards the Talsenalm. Bear right to the Talsenalm, continue to the Krinnsattel and then back to Waidring.
Option: from the Krinnsattel, bear right up to the Hausberg summit and forward into the valley until you get to the fountain. Walking time: 1 hr - MEDIUM
Waidring - Wemeteigenalm - Steinplatte car park
Walking time: 4 hrs - MEDIUM
From the village go along the Hintergasse to the main road, through the underpass and then take the 8a rising path to the "Elmbachquelle" and from there continue to the forest road. Keeping to the forest road, cross the Heigenhausalm on the way to the Wemeteigenalm. Now follow the steep footpath to the Wieslochsteig fork, continue to the Grünwaldalm, then to the Stallenalm (refreshment point) and finally Steinplatte car park.
(Alternatively, you can also use the steep old "Wemeteigensteig" footpath instead of the forest road, but it's a much tougher option!)
